Declare state of emergency in health sector, Reps urge FG
The House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector and allocate significant funds to it in the 2024 budget.
The motion was raised by Rep. Fayinka Oluwatoyin (APC-Lagos) and focused on the need for collaboration between the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA) and relevant health agencies in states and local governments to ensure the functionality of Primary Healthcare Centres.
The motion highlighted the alarming state of many healthcare facilities, particularly in rural areas, where inadequate facilities, staffing, and resources have led to increased death tolls.
The House called for revitalization and increased funding for primary healthcare centers and urged the Federal Ministry of Health to take action to improve healthcare services in these areas. It also emphasized the need to eliminate medical malpractice, especially in rural areas
