Let Us Unite To Eradicate Female Genital Mutilation ~Hon. Mariam Nnafatima
The recent symposium hosted by the Corp Legal Aid (NYSC) Community Development Service in collaboration with Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals (SSA SDGs) marked a watershed moment in Kwara State’s quest to eliminate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Held on October 24th, 2024, at NBA House, Ilorin, this pivotal event convened distinguished experts, courageous survivors, policymakers, traditional leaders, and Civil Society Organizations to confront the devastating consequences of FGM.
The symposium which is tandem with SDG 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing was well attended by renowned experts who delivered insightful presentations on the healthcare, law, and social justice implications of FGM. Survivors shared their poignant experiences, inspiring empathy and galvanizing action.
The Senior Special Assistant to Kwara State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam who was ably represented by Kwara SDGs’ Head of Administration, Mr. AbdulAziz Olasunkanmi Ishola, Mcpdm, elucidated the imperative of collective action in ending FGM, emphasizing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s dedication to this cause in Kwara State.
The symposium consolidates Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, CON, commitment to strengthening policy reforms and enforcement, engaging traditional leaders and community influencers, empowering survivors, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders towards ensuring zero tolerance for FGM in Kwara State.
As Kwara State continues to blaze the trail towards a safer, healthier future for women and girls, the Office of SSA-SDGs invites all stakeholders to join this clarion call to action. Together, we can create a brighter future where women and girls are protected from harm and empowered to thrive.
