As we approach the crucial date of 28th November 2024, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) finds itself at a crossroads. The events leading up to this day will determine the future of the party and its relevance in Nigerian politics.

Recent developments have left party loyalists in anguish and disillusionment. The cancellation of the October National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, along with ongoing internal crises, has cast a long shadow over the PDP’s prospects. In particular, the Ondo Off Circle Governorship election has stirred controversy, and the results are still awaited, leaving party members anxious and uncertain.

But beyond the immediate election results, it is the leadership crisis within the party that has become the elephant in the room. The conduct of party leaders, including figures like Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Samuel Anyanwu (Samdaddy), and Umar Iliyasu Damagum, has led to a situation where many members are now asking: what is the future of this party?

As the saying goes, when a person threatens harm in the night, and the child is found dead in the morning, one does not need a soothsayer to deduce who is responsible. Many members feel that the leadership of Wike, Damagum, and their cohorts has led the party to a place of ruin, and the time has come for them to step aside. The damage caused by their actions cannot be overstated.

It is not just about the personalities involved; it is about the very survival of the PDP. What is the purpose of leadership if it is unable to protect the organization it is supposed to nurture? The actions of some of the party’s leaders have not only compromised the integrity of the PDP but also alienated large segments of its base. The party’s internal dynamics have become a toxic battleground, leaving members divided and disillusioned.

The PDP’s constitution, as adopted in 2017, must be interpreted with fairness, without bias, and without fear. The time for excuses has passed. It is now or never. The party cannot continue to limp along under the weight of ineffective leadership.

There is a growing sense of urgency among party members that the PDP must regain its soul. The current leadership, particularly the compromised National Working Committee (NWC), must not be allowed to extend their reign. The time has come for them to leave, to take their leave through the backdoor, as the damage they have inflicted on the party is irreversible.

The PDP needs a fresh start. The party must return to its roots, to its true leaders who have the party’s interests at heart. We cannot afford to allow the antics of a few self-serving individuals to continue to define the future of the largest party in Africa. The PDP deserves better, and its members deserve better.

28th November 2024 is a pivotal moment in this journey. It marks the beginning of a process that can either lead to the party’s revival or its further decline. The decision we make will determine whether the PDP remains a force to be reckoned with in Nigerian politics or fades into irrelevance.

The clock is ticking, and it is time to put an end to the period of betrayals and failed leadership. The PDP must be revitalized, and this can only happen if those who have sabotaged its progress step down. The path to redemption is clear, but it requires courage, integrity, and the will to make the hard choices.

As we approach 28th November, the question is not just about who will lead the party but whether the PDP can rise again and reclaim its place as the true voice of the Nigerian people. This is a time for bold decisions and unwavering commitment to the ideals that once made the PDP a beacon of hope for millions.
