Lagos PDP Re-affirms Loyalty to Turaki-led NWC, Aivoji-Led State Exco, Dismisses Claims of Caretaker Committee, Slams APC Governance

LAGOS, NIGERIA – January 12, 2026 –

The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), through the Barr. Dr. Amos Fawole-led State Executive Committee-Elect hereby addresses party members, stakeholders, and the general public on the current leadership status, unity, and direction of the party particularly in Lagos State.

The Lagos PDP re-affirms its recognition, loyalty and support to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN duly elected at the PDP National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State capital on 15th and 16th of November, 2025.

The Lagos State PDP also affirms that the Hon. Phillip Aivoj- led State Executive Committee remains the valid and legally recognized leadership of the party in Lagos State until the expiration of its tenure, after which the newly-elected State Executive Committee, led by Barr. Dr. Amos Fawole, shall formally assume office.

It will be recalled that on Saturday, September 27, 2025, the National Headquarters of our great party conducted the Lagos State Congress for the election of new State Executive Officers, in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution. The congress was transparently conducted, monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the new State Executive duly was elected.

For the avoidance of doubt, all elected structures of the PDP in Lagos State namely the 245 Ward Executive Committees and the 20 Local Government Executive Committees are fully intact and functional.

The Lagos State PDP dismisses claims by certain individuals falsely and illegally parading themselves as “Lagos State Caretaker Committee” as there is no vacancy at any level of the party in Lagos State to warrant any form of Caretaker Committee.

The PDP hereby disassociate itself from these individuals and formally notify the general public that these individuals are unknown to the PDP structure in Lagos State and lack any legal, constitutional, or moral authority to act or speak on behalf of the party at any level.

The public is strongly advised not to engage, transact, or associate politically or financially with such individuals on any matter with regard to the PDP. Anyone dealing with these individuals does so at his or her own risk, as the leadership of the Lagos State PDP shall not be liable for any consequences arising from such dealings.

Moreover, the Lagos State PDP states unequivocally that the PDP is not factionalized. The PDP in Lagos remains one united, indivisible family operating under a single, legitimate structure and there is no leadership crisis or internal division.

Sorry State of Affairs in Lagos State Under APC Governance

The PDP expresses deep concern over the deteriorating state of Lagos State under the oppressive and insensitive All Progressives Congress (APC). It is heartrending that the current state government has abysmally failed Lagosians across every critical metric. From crumbling road infrastructure to a comatose healthcare system and a struggling education sector, the APC administration has demonstrated a horrible lack of capacity to meet the needs of the people of Lagos State.

The PDP however urges the citizens of Lagos State not to despair or surrender to despondency in the face of the biting economic hardships exacerbated by the anti-people policies of the APC administration, but to remain resolute as a new dawn is approaching on the platform of the PDP.

The Lagos State PDP is now reorganized, more united than ever, and strategically poised to reclaim the people’s mandate. The PDP is prepared to offer a sensitive, proactive alternative to the harsh governance currently experienced in the state. Our mission is clear: to restore the glory of Lagos and ensure that the state’s wealth works for all its inhabitants, not just a privileged few.
