COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MAIDEN MEETING OF THE STATE WORKING COMMITTEE (SWC) OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), KWARA STATE CHAPTER

The State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kwara State Chapter, under the leadership of the State Chairman, Hon. Isa Bawa Adamu, today held its maiden meeting for the year 2026, [Ref: KWSWC/2026/001], at the Party’s State Secretariat, Pipeline Road, Ilorin.

The meeting, presided over by the State Chairman, undertook a comprehensive review and assessment of the state of affairs of Kwara State and the Party. After exhaustive deliberations, the SWC resolved as follows:

*RESOLUTIONS*

1. The SWC, on behalf of the State Executive Committee (SEC), congratulates and warmly welcomes our Leader, His Excellency, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (CON), all critical stakeholders, party aspirants at all levels, the Elders’ Council, women and youth caucuses, and all other organs of the Party to the year 2026, while wishing all members a prosperous and successful New Year.

2. The SWC deeply appreciates our Leader and President of the 8th Nigerian Senate, His Excellency, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (GCON), for his massive financial and material support to party members and thousands of households across Kwara State, which significantly eased the burden on the people during the Christmas and New Year festive periods.

3. The Party also appreciates the various party aspirants at all levels whose contributions complemented the generosity of our Leader. The SWC prays that Almighty God replenishes their individual resources abundantly.

4. The SWC received briefings from key party officials on several policies, programs, and engagements scheduled for implementation in the year 2026. Some of these strategic inputs were adopted and approved for phased implementation.

5. The Party received a delegation from the Kwara Central Strategic Team (KCST), led by its President, Ambassador Olayinka Oladimeji Slam, who sought collaboration with the Party in the execution of their year-round political activities as a strong support group operating within Kwara Central.

6. While presenting hard copies of their proposal to the State Chairman in the presence of SWC members, Ambassador Slam commended the Bawa-led SWC for the renewed strength, innovation, and direction brought into the Party. He assured that the KCST would continue to complement the Party’s efforts towards reclaiming Kwara State in the 2027 general elections.

*STATE OF GOVERNANCE IN KWARA*

7. The Party passed a vote of no confidence on the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq over its all-round failure across critical sectors of governance. The SWC particularly condemned the Governor’s continuous absence from the state and prolonged stays in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which have created a leadership vacuum and rendered the government largely unresponsive to pressing issues confronting the people.

8. The SWC observed that despite repeated claims by the Kwara State Government of addressing insecurity and banditry, the situation has continued to worsen. Criminal elements have become more emboldened, extending their attacks to royal institutions, including the kidnapping of traditional rulers from their palaces and holding them in forests for ransom.

8. The SWC noted with grave concern that over 22 persons, including HRH Oba Olanipekun, the Oniwo of Afin, and his son, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, were abducted across various communities in Kwara South between December 25 and early January. The Party further noted the disturbing threats by the abductors to kill either the monarch or his son should the ransom demanded not be paid.

9. The Party strongly condemned the unwarranted violence and assaults unleashed on peacefully protesting elderly women who had gathered to seek government intervention for the release of their kidnapped loved ones. The SWC described as shameful the role of thugs, allegedly acting as agents of government, who attacked the protesters in the presence of police officers who failed in their duty to protect innocent citizens.

10. The SWC unequivocally condemned the failure of the Abdulrazaq administration to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this barbaric act. The Party issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Governor to produce and publicly parade the attackers and ensure they are prosecuted according to law, or be held responsible for their actions.

11. The Party also condemned the continued closure of schools across Kwara South and Kwara North since December, describing the decision as counterproductive and inimical to the future of the state’s children. The SWC called on the State Government to immediately reverse the policy, reopen schools, and instead strengthen security around educational institutions. The future of our children must not be sacrificed for the failure of an administration to discharge its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property.

12. The SWC further condemned the illegal occupation and destruction of business facilities at the popular Baba Saraki Agoro Market, located in the Ita-Amon area of Ilorin. The Party described the action by the Governor and his agents as another manifestation of political malice against the Saraki family, insisting that state power is being abused to settle personal and political scores.

The Party reminded the Governor of the transient nature of power and emphasized that no amount of demolition can erase the enduring legacy and contributions of the late Oloye Olusola Saraki and his family in the hearts of Kwarans.

13. The SWC commended the Agoro family of the late Oloye for exercising restraint and refusing to resort to self-help despite provocation, choosing instead to seek legal redress. The Party assured them that justice will prevail and that the people of Kwara will soon breathe fresh air, as the era of recklessness and impunity will come to an end in less than two years.
