General Ibrahim Babangida Task Newly Elected PDP National Party Chairman

2nd Of November, 2025

Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), has called on the newly appointed National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, to embark on a mission of rebuilding, reconciliation, and renewal as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

General Babangida gave this charge when Kabiru Turaki, alongside selected members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), paid him a courtesy visit at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State. He commended the new leadership team for their visit and emphasized that the PDP, as a major political force in Nigeria, must correct its past mistakes, strengthen its internal structures, and strategically reposition itself as a stabilising pillar for the country’s democracy.

IBB reminded the delegation that Nigerians are yearning for a party that can offer unity, security, and purposeful leadership. He urged Turaki to lead with wisdom, fairness, and a deep sense of responsibility, noting that the party’s success in 2027 depends largely on the decisions and actions taken now.

In his remarks, Kabiru Turaki appreciated the former Head of State for his fatherly guidance and assured him that the new NWC is committed to restoring the PDP’s founding values, promoting internal democracy, and reconnecting with Nigerians at all levels. He described the visit as part of ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening the party’s nationwide support base.

The courtesy visit ended with renewed hope for the PDP, as General Babangida reaffirmed his belief that the party can regain its position if it remains focused, united, and people-oriented.
