Generator dealers,Diesel suppliers sabotaging power supply – Ex-minister, Nnaji

Former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, has alleged that diesel suppliers and generator dealers are undermining efforts to provide regular power supply in Nigeria. He made this assertion during a radio program titled “The South East Political Roundtable” on Flo FM in Umuahia.

Nnaji pointed out that the continuous breakdown of the national power grid remains a significant concern for Nigerians, despite the government’s claims of spending significant funds on interventions in the power sector. He also identified diesel suppliers and generator dealers as obstacles in the power generation business, as they may be resistant to stable power supply due to potential negative impacts on their businesses.

He emphasized the need for professionals who understand the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry to manage the power sector effectively. Nnaji highlighted the presence of certain “cabals” in the power sector who benefit from problems related to poor power supply. He also cited an incident in which individuals cut down a power line to disrupt electricity supply, and the diesel supplying company allegedly sponsored the operation.
