In a steadfast commitment to eradicating gender-based violence, His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, today spearheaded a robust campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

The campaign, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Social Welfare in collaboration with the Network of Non-Governmental Organizations in Osun State (NETNOS), reflects the Governor’s unwavering dedication to protecting the rights and well-being of women and girls across the state.

Themed “Towards Beijing +30: United to End Violence Against Women and Girls,” the event, held in Osogbo, brought together key figures from all sectors of society to collectively raise awareness and advocate for the elimination of gender-based violence.

In her address, First Lady Chief (Mrs.) Titilola Adeleke said, “Gender-based violence tears families apart. We must unite to say no to abuse. I commend Governor Adeleke for his leadership in ensuring the safety and well-being of women and girls in Osun State. Together, we can build a society based on respect and equality.”

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Social Welfare, Hon Ayobola Fadeyi Awolowo , expressed gratitude for the Governor’s continued support: “The fight against GBV is a collective effort, and we are thankful for Governor Adeleke’s strong leadership. Together, we will create a safer, more equitable society for all.”

Dr. B.O Akinleye, wife of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, also called for action: “We must eliminate all forms of gender-based violence, including rape and domestic violence. It’s time to protect and empower women and girls in our society.”

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Social Welfare, Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde, further reinforced the commitment to tackling GBV: “Today, we stand united in declaring that gender-based violence will not be tolerated in Osun State. Our ministry is dedicated to supporting survivors and ensuring their protection.”

The event was attended by government officials, including the wife of the Speaker, Mrs. Princess M. Egbedun; wife of the Head of Service, Dr. Mojisola Aina; wife of the Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Fatima Oyewusi; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Children, Hon. Sekinat Temilade; Special Adviser to the Governor on RAAMP, Hon. Moji Omisore; Special Adviser to the Governor on Market Affairs, Hon. Eniola Omotosho; Special Adviser to the Governor Princess Oyeboade and several other notable government officials and community leaders.

Also present were the wives of Honourable Commissioners, wives of former caretaker chairmen, SA to the Governor on Social Affairs, Hon Soji Fagbohun, Gender Dirctor Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare and staff of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Social Welfare, as well as principals, teachers, and students from Ataoja School of Science all united in their resolve to eliminate gender-based violence.

Governor Adeleke’s leadership in this initiative underscores Osun State’s steadfast commitment to creating a safer and more equitable society.

His administration’s efforts to tackle gender-based violence and promote gender equality are a testament to the state’s broader mission of inclusivity and respect for human rights.
