Tambuwal Condemns Reported Attack on Dan’iya, Calls for Swift Investigation
Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, has condemned the reported attack on the Sokoto State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, and members of his convoy around Sokoto Airport on 30 October 2026.
In a post on his X handle, Tambuwal described as deeply disturbing allegations that personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and Sokoto State Community Guard blocked Dan’iya’s convoy, fired gunshots, damaged his vehicle and detained two Department of State Services (DSS) officers attached to his security detail.
He called on the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS and other relevant security agencies to swiftly conduct a thorough, independent and impartial investigation and bring anyone found culpable to justice.
Tambuwal stressed that every Nigerian has the right to move freely, associate with a political party and seek political office in accordance with the law, adding that no citizen should face threats, violence or harassment for exercising these rights.
“Let the people speak through their votes, not through arms,” he stated, urging those with political differences or grievances to express them through peaceful and lawful means.
The Senator emphasised that security outfits have a responsibility to protect all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, and must never become instruments of political intimidation.
He also called on the Sokoto State Government to ensure that all security outfits under its authority operate lawfully and impartially.
Tambuwal maintained that the ADC would proceed with its scheduled presidential campaign flag-off on 4 November 2026, despite any attempts at intimidation.
“Let it be clear: no amount of intimidation or threats will deter us,” he said, reiterating the party’s commitment to peaceful political engagement and the rule of law.
He urged ADC members and supporters to remain calm, exercise restraint and remain resolute, stressing that Sokoto belongs to all its people and Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians.
Tambuwal reaffirmed that democracy must protect the right of every citizen to participate freely and without fear.
