TINUBU Addresses Nigerians After A Phone Call Conversation With President Trump
President Tinubu to Nigerians.
Fellow Compatriots,
I greet you all in the spirit of unity, peace, and national progress.
A few moments ago, I concluded a constructive and deeply engaging telephone conversation with President Donald Trump of the United States of America. Our discussion centered on the recent diplomatic tensions that have arisen, as well as the need to chart a renewed path of understanding between our two great nations. The conversation was open, frank, and focused on solutions rather than divisions. Both leaders agreed that our collective priority must remain peace over conflict, hope over fear, and unity over division. We also acknowledged the concerns that have been raised by both sides and affirmed that they are genuine and deserving of thoughtful attention.
My administration remains firmly committed to ensuring that every citizen within the borders of our beloved nation feels safe, protected, and valued. Security and justice are not privileges; they are fundamental rights enshrined in our Constitution, and they form the very foundation of our democracy. Therefore, my government will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen national security structures, improve intelligence coordination, and ensure that no individual is targeted or harmed because of their faith, ethnic background, or political belief.
Together with the government of the United States, we have agreed to deepen our existing cooperation in key areas, particularly security, counterterrorism, and the promotion of democratic values. We are also exploring new frameworks of partnership that will support human rights protection, economic collaboration, and mutual respect between our two countries. It is my firm belief that diplomacy should never be reduced to hostility but should instead serve as a bridge that connects nations and people in pursuit of shared progress.
In the coming days and weeks, Nigerians will begin to witness tangible steps that reflect a clear departure from the unfulfilled promises and inefficiencies of the past. My administration is determined to deliver results that will reassure citizens of our sincerity and commitment. I call on all Nigerians to go about their lawful duties with confidence, knowing that the machinery of government is fully mobilized to ensure peace and stability in every part of the federation.
We understand the frustrations that many Nigerians have expressed over the years regarding governance, accountability, and performance. These frustrations are not misplaced—they represent the voice of a people demanding better service, fairness, and transparency. Rather than dismissing such concerns, my government takes them as valuable lessons in humility, duty, and responsibility. Every criticism, every question, and every concern expressed by citizens strengthens our resolve to build a nation where government truly serves the people.
President Trump and I also reaffirmed our mutual commitment to deepening the historical and strategic partnership between Nigeria and the United States. Our shared values—freedom, democracy, and human dignity—will continue to guide our relations and cooperation in the years ahead.
No Nigerian should ever feel ashamed of their citizenship. This nation is built upon the resilience, courage, and creativity of its people. We will continue to uphold and defend the dignity and rights of every Nigerian, wherever they may be. Our collective strength lies in the unity of our diversity.
As we move forward, I urge all citizens to renew their faith in our national creed: “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress.” Let us remain steadfast in our pursuit of a peaceful, just, and prosperous Nigeria.
Finally, I extend my sincere gratitude to all who have contributed, in one way or another, to fostering the atmosphere of understanding and cooperation we now enjoy. Together, we shall continue to build a nation worthy of its promise.
God bless you all.
And God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
