APC Gubernatorial Clash: Osun State APC Governorship Aspirants Internal Crisis Goes Deeper
10th of November, 2025
Feud Between AMBO and Omisore Deepens as Both Refuse to Step Down
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its governorship primary election scheduled for December 13, 2025, reports emerging from the Osun State chapter of the party indicate growing tension between two leading aspirants, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, former National Secretary of the APC, and Mr. Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), the candidate reportedly backed by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
According to party sources, the rivalry between both camps has intensified in recent weeks, posing a potential risk to party unity ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
A reconciliation meeting convened recently to broker peace between Otunba Omisore and Mr. Oyebamiji reportedly ended in chaos. During the meeting, Otunba Omisore insisted that his long years of political experience and service to the party make him the most qualified for the ticket.
In his words: “I was a deputy governor when President Tinubu was a governor, we started this dispensation together. It will be an insult to my years of political experience and contributions to see that a former Governor, now Minister, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, is projecting another inexperienced aspirant as the party’s potential candidate ahead of those of us who have been in the system for decades. Among all aspirants, only Peter Babalola ( Peter Progressives) can stand shoulder to shoulder with me because of his experience. He was also a leading contender in the 2002/2003 PDP governorship race.”
In response, Mr. Oyebamiji dismissed Omisore’s remarks, describing them as unnecessary provocations, while reaffirming his commitment to pursue the ticket with the backing of former Governor Oyetola and strong connections within the party’s national structure.
A witness at the meeting, who spoke under anonymity, revealed that the exchange of words between both camps suggests that reconciliation before or even after the primaries may be difficult. The source expressed concern that the party risks going into the 2026 Osun governorship election divided, especially against the incumbent Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
As the December 13, 2025 date draws nearer, party leaders and stakeholders across the state are reportedly working behind the scenes to ensure that the crisis does not derail the APC’s even if the chances in the forthcoming Osun election is very slim, it must not be worse like that of Anambra on Saturday.
