Sports Minister Applauds Amusan and Brume for Stellar Performance in the Diamond League
Senator John Owan-Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, extended his congratulations to Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume for their exceptional performances at the 2023 Diamond League in Oregon, USA.
Amusan secured victory in the 100m Women’s Hurdles on Sunday with a time of 12.33 seconds, successfully defending her Diamond League title. Senator Owen-Enoh praised her accomplishment as a fantastic conclusion to a season filled with various emotions, describing her determination and mental fortitude as admirable.
He expressed his joy and solidarity with Tobi Amusan, emphasizing that her win would help restore her confidence following the challenges she faced earlier in the year, even though she didn’t capture the World Championship title. He encouraged Tobi and other Nigerian athletes to recognize their hard work and set their sights on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Tobi Amusan’s achievement of winning three consecutive 100m hurdles titles in the Diamond League, equalling Dawn Nelson-Harper’s record, was also acknowledged by the minister.
Furthermore, Senator Owan-Enoh commended Nigerian long jumper Ese Brume for securing the silver medal in the long jump event, despite narrowly missing the gold by a small margin. He highlighted Ese Brume’s consistent excellence in various international competitions and encouraged her, along with other athletes, to remain focused on their goals as the 2024 Olympic Games approached.
