Anyaoku, Adebanjo, others reject review of 1999 Constitution

The Patriots, a group of elder statesmen and leaders of thought, have urged President Bola Tinubu to seize the historic opportunity to fix Nigeria by embracing the demand for restructuring toward true federalism.

They called for the convening of a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution that reflects the people’s wishes.

The leaders emphasized the need for a genuine federal constitution, stating that the current 1999 Constitution is not a people’s constitution but was imposed by the military.

They urged President Tinubu to avoid the mistakes of past administrations and work towards a truly Nigerian people’s constitution.
