Lawmaker Raises Petition for Unlawfully Dismissed Ex-Police Officer’s Reinstatement

In a significant move towards justice, Hon. Mudasiru Lukman, the representative of Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency, has taken up the cause of Mr. Iskilu Kehinde, an ex-police officer unlawfully dismissed by the Nigerian Police force in 1996. Hon. Lukman, also serving as the vice chairman of the House Committee on Human Rights, presented a petition to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, drawing attention to the unjust termination of Mr. Kehinde’s service.

The petition highlighted the absence of due process, emphasizing that Mr. Kehinde was terminated without a trial, despite maintaining a clean and commendable service record throughout his tenure. Hon. Lukman’s plea to the National Assembly sought the immediate reinstatement of Mr. Kehinde into the police force. Additionally, he urged for the payment of all necessary accrued entitlements and benefits from the date of his wrongful dismissal till present. Notably, the lawmaker also advocated for Mr. Kehinde’s promotion to a rank commensurate with the years of service he rendered to the force.

Expressing gratitude for Hon. Lukman’s intervention, Mr. Kehinde acknowledged the previous challenges faced in bringing his petition to the forefront. Previous attempts to rectify the injustice encountered frustrating obstacles, making this recent initiative a beacon of hope for Mr. Kehinde’s long-overdue quest for reinstatement and rightful compensation.

This endeavor by Hon. Mudasiru Lukman signifies a crucial step towards ensuring justice for Mr. Iskilu Kehinde, shedding light on an issue that has long been overlooked. It highlights the importance of procedural fairness and advocates for the rights of individuals wronged by institutional negligence.
