Russia initiates aerial assaults on Ukraine’s Lviv city in the west

The mayor of Lviv has reported that one person has been injured and a warehouse damaged in the early morning air assaults by Russia. The western Ukrainian city experienced explosions in the early morning hours as its air defenses engaged in halting multiple Russian air attacks, according to local officials.

Lviv’s mayor, Andriy Sadoviy, conveyed through the Telegram messaging app that air defenses were active in the region and advised residents to seek shelter. Ukraine’s Air Force also issued a warning on Telegram about the ongoing threat of Iranian-made drones in the Lviv region.

Starting around 00:00 GMT, Western Ukraine was put on high alert for air raids. Reports indicate that several waves of drones attempted to target locations in Lviv starting at approximately 01:30 GMT, with numerous explosions occurring as air defenses intercepted the incoming unmanned aerial vehicles.

Subsequently, Mayor Sadoviy reported a fire at an industrial warehouse and mentioned that emergency services were working to control the blaze. He stated that one person, a man in his mid-20s, was found injured under the rubble of the warehouse and transported to the hospital.

The full scope of the attack and the extent of the damage remain unclear at this time, and there has been no immediate response from Russia.

Despite being distant from the primary conflict zones in the eastern and southern parts of Ukraine, Lviv has previously experienced deadly missile and drone strikes by Russia, resulting in significant damage and loss of life among its residents. Further updates will follow soon.
