Be transparent in cash transfer scheme, ActionAid urges Tinubu

ActionAid Nigeria has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the Conditional Cash Transfer program reaches the most vulnerable individuals in society. While acknowledging the positive aspects of the initiative, the organization stressed the importance of a careful and transparent selection process to avoid excluding or misallocating resources.

The group has also urged the extension of the program beyond the initial three months, recognizing that sustainable poverty eradication requires ongoing support and intervention to create a more stable foundation for long-term economic empowerment.

In addition to the program, ActionAid Nigeria has requested that the government explore options for sustainable livelihoods for beneficiary families. This may include skill-building, vocational training, and access to markets for small-scale entrepreneurs, aiming to promote economic independence and resilience.

Country Director Andrew Mamedu has emphasized the significance of supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for economic growth and job creation. He suggested that expanding access to financial resources, technical assistance, and market linkages would enhance the impact of the program.
