Correctional Service dismisses two, sanctions 35 others for misconduct
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has taken disciplinary actions against its personnel, resulting in the dismissal of two individuals and sanctions imposed on 35 others for misconduct and actions that were detrimental to their duties. This information was announced by the Public Relations Officer of the NCoS, Umar Abubakar.
The personnel’s behavior posed a threat to the security of the organization, and the NCoS has taken these actions as part of its efforts to instill discipline and adhere to international correctional best practices. The sanctions were for various misconducts, including activities such as trafficking in contraband, unauthorized absence from duty, theft, negligence of duty, criminal conspiracy, and aiding and abetting.
The Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, emphasized the commitment to reward excellence and exceptional performance while also holding erring personnel accountable according to existing laws. The goal is to maintain the integrity and ethical standards of the NCoS in line with international best practices and to ensure the removal of any “bad eggs” from the system. The Service continues its statutory mandates with a focus on integrity and ethical conduct.
