Why we invited EFCC, ICPC, DSS, others to monitor Perm Secs selection process – Yemi-Esan

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, explained the decision to involve the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) in monitoring the selection process for Permanent Secretaries.

The move aimed to promote transparency and ensure the integrity of the process. Dr. Yemi-Esan acknowledged the pressure and tactics from rent seekers and socio-political lobbyists but emphasized her commitment to upholding the meritocratic process.

The involvement of anti-graft agencies is part of a broader effort to revolutionize the selection process and ensure that only the best candidates are appointed to crucial positions. The Head of Service commended the efforts of the ICPC, acknowledging its vital role in preventing corruption in the selection process.

The lecture highlighted the positive correlation between a meritocratic approach and economic growth, drawing inspiration from countries like India, Singapore, China, and Rwanda, where meritocracy is deeply ingrained in their public service systems.
