Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja sentenced a bricklayer, Gabriel Awaye, to life imprisonment for the defilement of a 13-year-old girl.

The court found Awaye guilty of the charges brought against him by the state government, and the prosecutor accused him of committing the offenses on June 2, 2021, at Agbawaye Street, Command Area of Agbado Oke-Odo in Lagos.

The judge, in her judgment, stated that the survivor’s testimony was lucid and unambiguous, corroborating the evidence provided by other prosecution witnesses. Justice Soladoye sentenced Awaye to life imprisonment on each of the two counts, emphasizing the need to protect survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance stance and emphasized its commitment to supporting survivors while ensuring perpetrators face justice.
