NIHSA: LAGDO Dam Water Release Underway, Precaution Advised

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) announces water release from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon at 100m3/s, increasing to 1000m3/s over 7 days. Dam managers assure gradual release to avoid exceeding Benue River’s capacity.

NIHSA advises vigilance in states contiguous to River Benue: Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross-Rivers, and Rivers. Major flooding is unlikely, as flow levels remain within warning levels.

NIHSA will monitor flow situations and provide updates to prevent flood disasters. Director-General Umar Ibrahim Mohammed reassures the public that measures are in place. States and local governments are urged to deploy preparedness measures to reduce potential impacts.
