A lawmaker representing Kogi State in the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has distanced himself from recent political realignments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing that he had no prior contact with prominent figures who recently joined the party.
Abejide made this known during an appearance on Channels Television, where he addressed the ongoing internal disputes within the ADC, particularly those linked to a coalition reportedly led by David Mark and other influential actors.
Reacting to the influx of new entrants, the lawmaker underscored the need for proper engagement with existing party members, noting that political inclusiveness should be guided by consultation and mutual respect. He questioned why new entrants failed to interface with established stakeholders before making their moves.
When asked whether he had personally interacted with leading members of the coalition, including Atiku Abubakar, Rauf Aregbesola, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rotimi Amaechi, Abejide stated unequivocally that he had never met with any of them.
Clarifying his stance, he dismissed suggestions that his position was driven by personal grievances, insisting instead that due process and adherence to legal frameworks must guide party affairs.
He also rejected claims that his actions could weaken the party, expressing confidence in the ADC’s stability and urging all parties to await the court’s verdict on the matter.
On his political future, Abejide said his next move would be determined by the outcome of the ongoing legal battle. According to him, a favourable ruling would open the door for him to contest, while an unfavourable one would compel him to chart a different political path, stressing that he would not align with those he disagrees with.
