Fear of Primary Election: Osun Rep Accused of Non-Performance, Allegedly Seeking Automatic Ticket

Hon. Lukman Mudashir Alani (popularly known as L&K), the Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Iwo Federal Constituency (Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa), has come under heavy criticism over alleged poor performance and abandonment of core supporters who reportedly sacrificed personal resources to secure his election.

Our correspondence recalls the recent public rejection of the lawmaker by Oba Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, who openly described Hon. Alani as a failure. The monarch’s position was made public via social media and covered by reputable media platforms, including Alaroye TV.

According to the monarch, Hon. Alani’s decline began immediately after his election. He reportedly distanced himself from supporters, restricted access to his residence once open to all during his campaign and allegedly adopted an attitude perceived as arrogant and dismissive. These actions, it is claimed, alienated many early supporters who later concluded that he was unprepared for leadership.

Further allegations include the mishandling of federal relief materials. During a period when the Federal Government reportedly distributed rice to constituencies nationwide to cushion economic hardship, residents of Iwo Federal Constituency allegedly neither received the items nor knew their whereabouts. Similar claims were made regarding fertilizer distribution, with many constituents stating they only saw online photos without benefiting directly.

Critics also accuse the lawmaker of misdirected empowerment initiatives, alleging that vehicles were given to party leaders who already owned cars, while motorcycles and equipment such as grinding machines and refrigerators were distributed to a small group of loyalists. These interventions, they argue, covered less than 10 percent of party members and excluded the broader public amid prevailing economic hardship.

In light of these developments, youths across Iwo Federal Constituency have reportedly withdrawn their support and are calling for a credible alternative candidate in the forthcoming elections. They allege that Hon. Alani, fearing rejection at the primaries, is now seeking an automatic return ticket through party influence rather than a democratic primary process.

The youths are therefore appealing to party leadership in Osun State to uphold internal democracy and resist imposing a failed incumbent on the constituency. They also warn that ignoring widespread discontent among young voters could negatively affect the party’s chances in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, potentially opening the door for the opposition to secure a landslide victory.

God bless Osun State.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
