Breaking: Flooding loom in some Nigeria State

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather advisory for the upcoming days, highlighting potential weather conditions and associated hazards in various regions of the country.

Rainfall Forecast:
According to NiMet, moderate rainfall is expected over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Edo, Delta, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Oyo, Kwara, and Niger State on Sunday. Additionally, low to moderate rainfall is anticipated in Sokoto, Zamfara, Kogi, Kebbi, Kano, and Taraba states.

The agency noted that there is little or no risk of hydrometeorological hazards in other parts of the country.

Temperature Forecast:
NiMet mentioned that there is little or no chance of temperature-related hazards due to the expected low to moderate temperatures on Sunday.

Strong Winds Forecast:
Between Friday and Sunday, NiMet issued a warning about the possibility of very strong winds affecting the extreme northern parts of the country, including Niger, Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno States. Strong winds are also anticipated in Taraba, Gombe, Plateau, FCT (Federal Capital Territory), Kwara, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Benue states.

NiMet cautioned that there is a high risk of hazards associated with these strong winds. These hazards may include significant damage to weak structures, tree falls, disruption of vehicular movement due to road blockages, and displacement of people due to damage to buildings.

Recommendations:
In response to the weather advisory, NiMet advised the following:

1. Updating Contingency Plans: Individuals, communities, and relevant authorities should update contingency plans to prepare for potential hazards associated with strong winds and rainfall.

2. Disaster Management: Improved disaster management measures should be in place during strong wind events. Authorities are encouraged to be ready to take adequate actions to mitigate the impact of severe weather conditions.

3. Collaboration with Meteorological Services: Authorities should maintain continuous communication and collaboration with the National Hydrological Meteorological Services to stay informed about detailed meteorological conditions and forecasts.
